Just back last week and stayed in a hotel called Dream, on 55th st at
Broadway got it for $180 a night (+ local Tax) and is rated a 3 1/2 or 4
star depending on what you read, room were small with a double bed but you
can get bigger rooms, if you want. pretty central for all the shows and
Central Park.
Service was excellant and they actually made the rooms up evertime you left
to go out....left in the moning came back in the late afternoon showered
changed and went back out.
When we got back in the towels had been changed again, the bed tidied and an
apple on each pillow and a card to give you the weather forecast the next
day...fantastic
Used a site for the hotel called www.quikbook.com
you don't pay for the hotel until you leave but the booking requires a CC
Have fun

Don't book with Expedia! We booked hotel room in NY with them.
Got there to find they had no record of booking (despite room having been
paid for with CC 6 months previously!) and no available rooms.
Eventually got money back from credit card but no compensation from Expedia
for being stranded in NY and having to find another hotel at 5pm on a
Saturday evening.
and of course they're not ABTA registered so we were stuffed!

Have a look at this www.newyorkpass.com we went a couple of years ago as a
suprise for my wifes 40th birtday and used them all over the place. The
main advantage was not having to queue up for tickets etc at the major stuff
(Empire State Building, Statue Of Liberty, etc). One thing we did was go on
a helicopter trip around the city, fabulous. I seem to remember it being
quite expensive for 20 mins but it was my wifes 40th that day so we could
justify it!

You could have halved the cost by leaving her behind!

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Long Island City which is pretty near the
railway system

Hi,
Last time I was there, there were no hotels so I had to stay in Suites
(essentially a bedsit). I was pleasantly surprised.
I stayed in the signature suites in Greenwich Village. Excellent location.
Right in the middle of things for evening entertainment. Close enough to
public transport too. Only problem is that you need to get the 'key'
before 6pm (the key is infact a keycode of the electronic door so you might
be able to negotiate around this.
No breakfast is served but there are plenty of coffee bars just outside the
doors.
I just checked an rooms are about $80 per night at the moment.
I booked through http://lm.hotelclub.net
failing that, expedia tends to do decent prices. Hotels near times square
tend to be cheaper and are obviously well positioned.
